Welcome to Dry Space – a collaborative platform for myself and other Millennials’ sober (and otherwise) thoughts on alcohol and its role in our everyday lives.
Dry Space joins a growing worldwide movement of “Dry Bars”, “Dry Scenes” and blogs such as Hip Sobriety and Drinking Dairies as well as revolutionary sites like Hello Sunday Morning where young individuals are opting away from alcohol-infused lives and, instead, are seeking more meaning and connection. Simply put, in Hip Sobrieties’ Manifesto, “sober is the new black”, and South Africans are starting to catch on with the rise in events such as Secret Sunrise, Rooftop Yoga with DJs and Fitness Fridays to name a few.
Through the blog I will be exploring my history and journey with alcohol as I attempt a life less hungover. It will also feature the voices of other young individuals in SA and abroad and their stories and experiences with alcohol.
It’s time to take a look into the world of drinking, challenge the norms associated with it, normalise non-drinking behaviour and start building a community of like-minded individuals who we can draw inspiration from.
So here I am. Trying to be brave.
It would be great if you could support me, or better yet, become a contributor to the site.
After all, life’s too short to be wasted.
If you would like to contribute an article, story, creative piece to Dry Space please do! This is a collaborative space, and your opinions and experiences are welcome. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with article submissions and any accompanying media and I will get in touch with you with further details.
